1928📍 Albion Church, St. Marys Road, Southampton
Early in 1928, the Band severed its connection with the Scouts and was re-formed as the Southampton Albion Silver Band. Despite becoming an independent band, rehearsals continued in one of the rooms at Albion Church, St. Marys Road.
The newly re-formed Band started from scratch, with no funds and no regular source of income. A new set of instruments was acquired, leaving the Band with a considerable debt. Friends of the Band helped by providing loans towards the necessary deposit, while engagements were initially carried out in ordinary civilian clothes — or, as Ernie Allen described it, “Civvies”.
