1929 – The Band Gets Its First Uniform

Following the success of the regular engagements at The Dell, Southampton Football Club informed the Band that for the next season — and future seasons — it would need to appear in uniform. This created another considerable expense for a Band still working hard to establish itself financially.

The members were fitted out in a navy-blue uniform. The Band’s first engagement wearing the new uniform was a Massed Concert on the Royal Pier, performing alongside the Docks & Marine Band and Thornycroft Band. By the end of the following season the instrument debt had been cleared, and attention then turned to paying off the cost of the uniforms.
