1930 – First Contest Success at Gillingham

1930📍 Gillingham, Dorset

In 1930, the Band competed in its first contest as the Southampton Albion Silver Band, travelling to Gillingham, Dorset, for the Wessex Association Contest. The occasion brought immediate success, with the Band winning the ‘B’ Section.

This victory marked the beginning of an increasingly successful period of contesting for the Albion. Under Bandmaster Mr. A. Halestrap, the Band continued to develop, and within only a few years would be competing successfully in the Association’s ‘A’ Section.
