In 1935, the Southampton Albion Silver Band took part in Southampton’s celebrations marking the Silver Jubilee of King George V and Queen Mary.
The Band participated in the Silver Jubilee Parade through Southampton, joining the city’s wider programme of celebrations for the 25th anniversary of the King’s accession to the throne.
By this time Albion was becoming firmly established in the civic life of Southampton. Alongside its increasingly successful contesting activities, the Band regularly provided music for parades, public celebrations, community events and other important occasions across the city.
A surviving photograph of the 1935 Silver Jubilee Parade provides an important visual record of the Band taking part in this historic national and civic occasion.
