In 1938, the Southampton Albion Silver Band continued the strong contesting record it had established throughout the 1930s.
At the Wessex Summer Contest at Amesbury, Albion won the Deep Harmony Challenge Cup and was awarded third prize in the Open Section for Dress and Deportment.
The Band also travelled to Alexandra Palace for the National Band Festival, where it was among the Fourth Section prizewinners.
These results added to an impressive decade of contesting for the Albion. During the 1930s the Band had progressed from its early success in the Wessex B Section to victories and prizes at Wessex contests and national competitions, while its individual musicians were also achieving considerable success in solo and ensemble events.
By the end of the decade, the Southampton Albion Silver Band had established itself as a respected and increasingly successful contesting band.
