1932📍 The Stadium, Southampton
round 1932, the Southampton Albion Silver Band undertook one of the most unusual engagements of its early years when it played at the Stadium during a General Election.
Election results were announced to the crowds over loudspeakers as they came in, while the Albion Band provided musical entertainment throughout the night.
The engagement began at approximately 10.00pm and continued until around 3.00am the following morning, making it a very different experience from the Band’s usual concerts and contest appearances.
Recollections such as this demonstrate the wide variety of engagements undertaken by the Albion during the 1930s and the important part the Band was beginning to play in the public life of Southampton.
