1945📍 Southampton
The war years and their aftermath brought a number of sad losses to the Southampton Albion Silver Band. Ernie Allen recorded the deaths of several people who had been part of the Band and its story.
Mr. J. Williamson, the Bandmaster, and Mr. Muddiman both died during the war. Harry Smith, the Band’s Bass Drummer, was killed in an air raid while serving with the Fire Service.
Shortly after the war, the Band also lost W. Hannam. Another sad loss was “Hughie” Matheson, who collapsed while playing with the Band at The Dell and died a few days later.
Their contribution forms part of the Band’s history and they are remembered among those who helped establish and sustain the Southampton Albion Silver Band through some of its most difficult years.
