Rain fails to disrupt London 10K event

For the fourth year in a row the band set up on the end of Westminster Bridge to accompany the 25,000 runners taking part in the London 10K run. This was the last major sporting event in the central streets of the capital before the Olympics begin at the end of July.

As can be seem from the photo above the weather was “slightly inclement” but that did not stop the band from playing for the two and a half hours it took all the runners to pass both ways across Westminster Bridge turning directly in front of the band. The repetoire for the morning consisted mainly of up tempo pieces to urge the runners along. Despite the poor weather there was still a large crowd to cheer the runners on and give them that extra bit of encouragement.

Set up as we were outside the Marriott County Hall hotel, we were grateful to be invited in for tea, coffee and pastries to the hotel just after we arrived and before we had to play. The refreshment was most welcome after an extremely early start from Southampton. Our sincere thanks go to all the staff at the Marriott for making us feel so welcome.
