Band performs for dinner(s)

At the beginning of February the band were asked to play at the Master Mariner’s Dinner at the City Terminal in Southampton Docks. This is the second year in a row that the dinner has been hosted here and is the fouth time in recent times that the band have been asked to provide accompaning music to the master mariners as they dine. As you might expect, much of the music was of a nautical nature which was well received by the diners. After the speeches the band came back to perform some traditional sea shanties with the “Shantymen” and finished off the evening with Rule Britannia and Land of Hope and Glory.

In contrast, at the beginning of March the band played at the annual dinner for the Southampton Round Table. This was a much less formal affair and the band played throughout the dinner whilst trying to avoid the pellets being fired at them from various tables. The band played its usual wide ranging repetoire of music followed by a finale that took in 633 Squadron, The Dambusters March, Jersualem, Land of Hope and Glory, Rule Britannia and the band’s signature tune “When the Saints go Marching in”.

Both concerts were appreciated by the respective diners and have asked us to perform again next year.
