Band combines with Thornden Community Wind Band to celebrate D-Day anniversary

The band combined with the Thornden Community Wind Band to perform a D-Day memorial concert at Thornden school to celebrate the 70th anniversary of D-Day on the 6th June. Before a good size audience, the Thornden band played the first half of the concert with music from Rossini, a Marvin Hamlisch selection, the Blue and the Gray and a medley of World War II films. The “Albion” band played in the second half playing, amongst others, Colonel Bogey, Shostakovic’s Festive Overture, Georgia on My Mind and Miller Magic. Finally, both bands combined to play Standard of St. George, Finlandia, High on a Hill and Britannic Salute.

The music was interspersed with speeches from World War II figures including Eisenhower and Churchill. It was great to see such a large group of people making music and being thoroughly appreciated by the audience.
