Our annual concert at Romsey Bandstand is traditionally scheduled in May which leaves it open to the vaguries of the weather. Two out of the last four years have been cancelled due to rain and the other two years were not blessed with sunny weather. However, despite the inclement forecast the afternoon actually turned out sunny and warm. The good weather brought the spectators with it. It was really good to see the lawns around the bandstand dotted with blankets and deck chairs enjoying the afternoon music.
Romsey Bandstand is a pleasant old fashioned bandstand situated down behind the Abbey in the War Memorial Park on the banks of the River Test. It’s a really nice traditional place to play brass band music. The band played its usual mix of marches, orchestral works, pop songs, musicals and brass band pieces. Highlights amongst those were All That Jazz, Strauss’ Thunder and Lightning Polka, 12th Street Rag, Georgia on My Mind and the Farandole from L’Arlesienne Suite No. 2 by Bizet.
