The City of Southampton (Albion) Band has quite close links with the Chandlers Ford Boys Brigade Band as our conductor Nick Dawson started his conducting career there and one or two of our other members also are (or used to be) members of that band. So it was with pleasure that we were able to combine with the band in mid November to hold a concert in the Chandlers Ford Methodist Church.
With members from both bands playing, the size of the band was close to 70 players. The concert started with the Gordon Jacobs arrangement of the National Anthem and continued with a variety of classical pieces, marches, jazz pieces, traditional brass band pieces and numbers from musicals. At the end of the first half the band accompanied the bagpipes to Highland Cathedral in memory of Robbie Henderson who played in both bands.
