Early Trip Abroad to IOW

In the middle of January the band travelled to the Isle Of Wight to take part in a Sankey service at St. John’s Church, Sandown. Ira David Sankey was an American gospel singer and composer, born in 1840. He first visited the UK in 1873. Sankey wrote many hymns and songs and arranged music for many more, and his Sacred Songs and Solos is still in use today. The event was organized by the local rotary club to support local charities. The band were able to accompany the packed audience in a number of Sankey hymns as well as playing one or two other items for the appreciation of the audience.
