Christmas Concert begins busy month for band

The band’s annual Christmas concert was held early this year on 30th November at St. James Road Methodist Church in Shirley. A good sized audience were treated to two halves of music. The first half focused on music from the band’s extensive repertoire including Bizet’s “Pearl Fisher’s duet”, a selection from “Les Miserables”, Shostakovic’s Festive Overture and a selection of Glenn Miller tunes called “Miller Magic”. The second half contained a selection of Xmas music including perennial favourites, Last Christmas, Il Est Ne, Wonderful Christmastime and Leroy Anderson’s “A Christmas Festival”. Interspersed amongst these pieces the audience were able to join the band in singing some Xmas carols.

This was the first concert in a busy month for the band. They are playing carols at Marks & Spencer on Sunday 8th December and Tuesday 17th December to help raise money for Macmillan Cancer and the Alzheimer’s Society. They will also be performing at St Albans Church, Swaythling  on the 15th December for their Xmas carol service and at the Swaythling Neighbourhood Centre on the following day.
